Good News for Workers, Bad News for Walmart

The Huffington Post reports that over 70 LA Walmart workers walked off the job in a historic, first-ever strike against the retailer. Workers said the strike was in response to management’s frequent retaliation against employees who spoke up about working conditions. The move comes on the heels of Walmart-contracted warehouse workers striking in California and Illinois. Workers across Walmart’s supply chain are standing in solidarity to demand respect on the job, and we stand with them.

On Monday, 600-plus people marched to Wal-Mart’s vast distribution warehouse in Elwood, Ill., to show support for workers who have been on strike since mid-September. Riot police were called in and arrested 17 peaceful protestors. Looks like Walmart is getting a bit nervous that its labor practices are being brought into the sun light.

Walmart’s problems don’t end there; the mega retailer is now facing lawsuits in federal court for allegedly discriminating against female workers in five southern states.
